Our Story
Visiting her grandma at the assisted living facility where she lived, a fourteen year old Sienna saw first-hand the seniors’ struggles to keep on top of simple tasks such as making and keeping appointments, manage pill-schedules, access their bank accounts, and stay on ever-changing social media apps their children and grandchildren were using.
She started volunteering at the center, helping her grandma and other residents learn the various features of the smartphones. Pleasantly surprised by the incredible difference mastering the simplest features made in the seniors’ lives, she expanded her service by volunteering at other assisted living facilities and County Senior Centers.
Sienna’s service has helped, and continues to help, dozens of seniors improve their daily lives by empowering them
to handle basic but critical tasks such as banking, schedule keeping, and staying connected with their families. Sienna assists many seniors regularly, continuing to help them get better at using their smartphones, and making lifetime friendships with them.
A note from Sienna to her peers
Sometimes, thinking small can make all the difference.
Saving the rain forests, the oceans, or arresting climate change are lofty and laudable goals. But also look around you and see who needs a helping hand. Technology is transformational in ways unimaginable, but as new waves of technology arrives on our society’s shores, they are leaving many of us in the dark. Our parents, especially our grandparents, are baffled by many of these new technologies, and are unable to benefit from them. This issue is most stark when it comes to personal devices.
You can make a difference in the lives of seniors that are around you. Empower them by helping them master critical features in their smartphones.
